Beaches, the lagoon and local history on the Isola del Sole (Island of Sunshine)

The island of Grado lies off the northern part of the Adriatic coast between mittel-European Trieste, just forty minutes away, and Venice. Long known as the “Island of Sunshine”, it is a holiday spot highly appreciated for its stupendous lagoon, its Blue Flag beaches, its spa of national fame and its history. In fact, Grado combines the traditional summer entertainment of a seaside resort with the attraction of local history. Indeed, the history of this island goes back to Roman times, when it was used as a port serving Aquileia (an ancient Roman city that can be reached in just a few minutes from here).

The island offers a wide choice of high-quality fish restaurants and a large number of cafés and osterie (wine bars) where you can spend some happy time in jovial company.

From the aquatic park to the golf club, you will be spoilt for choice with the large number of outdoor activities on offer. Nature-lovers too will be in their element. Not only can they enjoy the wonderful uncontaminated lagoon, but just a few kilometres away they will find the Cona protected nature reserve, the home of so many species of birds. Kilometres and kilometres of cycle tracks will take you absolutely everywhere!
